It's About Thriving

Some of you have probably heard of SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives. SCORE has done some research that helps us understand why 90% of small businesses fail in 10 years.

1) 78% of them lack a solid plan

2) 73% of them are overly optimistic about their ability to sell, to generate revenue

3) 77% are not pricing their products or services properly, 

4) AND, probably the scariest one, 70% don't recognize, or just completely ignore their weaknesses and refuse to seek help.

THIS is the plight of the entrepreneur today. 


With this data in hand, it is no surprise that I have been led to ask a very loud “Why?”. But, more than just a search for understanding, this plight has become the motivation for why I desire to coach and impact both businesses and the individuals who make up those businesses.

You may be now asking, "How does this 'why' and the resulting motivation impact my experience when I engage with Dean as a Business Coach?"

As I work with each individual, each business challenge, each goal not being attained, my response and my strategy is not simply to “fix”. Rather, it is to help you and your business THRIVE.  I want you to be the best version of yourself. I want to see your business succeed on a level that neither you nor I could even imagine at the outset. Because it's not just about your business. It’s about who you are at the deepest level. It’s about solutions with applications that stretch far beyond the marketplace. It’s about THRIVING.

My other passion is combating suicide

My family and I have been significantly impacted by suicide. In 2016, I lost my brother-in-law, Rick, to suicide. As you can imagine, the factors leading to this heartbreaking time in the lives of our family mattered very little…since the result was that Rick was gone. But the impact this loss had on me was even more significant.

When I was in my 20’s, I lost my close friend Ritchie to suicide. Early in 2020, my friend Scott succumb to the same painful end. And, as a Veteran of the Navy, I am acutely aware of the toll that suicide takes on my fellow servicemen and women. Currently, we lose an average of 22 Veterans to suicide each day. For whatever reason, my journey has been punctuated with an all-too-frequent connection with suicide.

I am privileged to donate a portion of all Coaching Memberships to Mission 22, and organization created to combat the suicide epidemic among Veterans. This tragedy that is so close to my heart continues to serve to be the catalyst for how I endeavor to help those around me. And it is from that mindset that I walk into your business thinking about so much more than just your business.
